Geoghegan, Dudley win XTERRA Mountainman Triathlon

(Kaaawa, HI) - Mark Geoghegan, an engineer from Sydney, Australia who moved to Honolulu in 2001, won the XTERRA MountainMan off-road triathlon at Kualoa Ranch for the second straight year this morning in 1:25:12, more than one-minute ahead of runner-up Yu Yumoto, a professional triathlete from Tokyo, Japan.

Geoghegan, 47, is one of Oahu’s most accomplished triathletes having won the 45-49 division XTERRA World Championship last year.  He’s also competed in both the Ironman Hawaii and XTERRA World Championship races, known as the Hawaiian Airlines Double, in each of the last five years.

Lou Ortiz had the fastest swim and was the first off the bike but was passed by Geoghegan and Yumoto on the run and finished third.

Laurel Dudley, 30, of Waialua, dominated the women’s race with a winning time of 1:36:39, more than seven minutes ahead of runner-up Stacy Sims from Menlo Park, California.  La Kelly from Sedona, Arizona finished third.

The top finishers in each of the various age groups qualified to participate in the 2011 XTERRA World Championship off-road triathlon at Kapalua Resorts in Maui on Oct. 23.
