XTERRA America Tour Perfection

Steve ColeThe XTERRA America Tour is at the exact midway point of the 2011 season with 35 races in the books and another 35 to go and to this point six age-group competitors have secured the perfect score of 325 points.

Kyle Grieser (25-29), Joey Guajardo (30-34), Steve Cole (55-59), and James Dewlen (60-64) – all of the South Central Region, plus Hannah Rae Finchamp (15-19 in West Region - pictured below) and Karen Masson (40-44 in Southeast Region) are the spotless six and were the first to receive invitations to compete at the XTERRA USA Championship in Ogden, Utah on Sept. 24, 2011.

To get to 325 the aforementioned athletes won their division at four races, including two in their region and one at an XTERRA regional championship.  The regional win is worth 100 points, and the other three are worth 75 points.  Click here for an in-depth breakdown on how the series works.

Hannah Rae FinchampOf note, Cole (pictured right) is now in his second decade of dominating his division.  The pilot from Olive Branch, Mississippi, was the best age group racer in the South Central’s 45-49 division from 2001 to 2005, won the SC 50-54 division from 2006-2010, and is now working on the 55-59 titles.  He’s the only racer in XTERRA history to win 10 regional championships.

At just 29-years-old Kyle Grieser from Marble Falls isn’t far behind with eight regional championships, and Guarjardo and Dewlen each won their second regional title last year.

Finchamp, of course, is the reigning XTERRA World Champ and just finished up her freshman year at Maranatha High School while Masson is a former XTERRA pro – now enjoying the trails as an age grouper.

With half the season still to go rest assured that many more will achieve the perfect score and the best of the best will meet-up at the ultimate showdown at the XTERRA USA Championship in Utah this September.
