A Look at J-Dawg's 37

Whitmore FamilyIn 2004 Jamie Whitmore became XTERRA’s all-time career championship race wins leader when she picked up her 19th title at XTERRA Japan. In winning that race she passed XTERRA Hall of Famer Kerstin Weule who set the previous record with 18 wins.

Over the next three years Whitmore would nearly double that total, and when she won the 2007 XTERRA USA Championship for the fifth time in her career it marked her 37th championship win.  At the time, it looked like 50, even 100 wins wouldn’t be out of the question.   Then came cancer, and her focus turned from winning races to fighting for her life.  Thank goodness “J-Dawg” is as tough as they come and she not only survived, but thrived.  Whitmore now fills her days playing with her adorable twin boys and she coaches others how to excel in their own careers.  While her days as an elite may have come to an end, her life as an athlete never will.

“We are working on a new ankle-foot orthosis for my leg so I get going on the bike.  Who knows, maybe I'll set a new record for the Challenged division,” said Whitmore (pictured here with husband Courtney and her two boys, Ryder and Christian).

Tomorrow another XTERRA legend – Conrad Stoltz – has the chance to pass Whitmore on the all-time championship wins list by taking home his 38th career win at XTERRA South Africa.  It seems appropriate now, then, to document the impressive list of races and places where Whitmore was a winner.
