Swim in the Clouds at XTERRA Indian Peaks
XTERRA Indian PeaksDate: August 8, 2010 Location: Nederland, Colorado Venue: Eldora Resort Nordic Center Distances: 1000m Swim, 24km Bike, 7km Run Website: http://www.digdeepsports.com Phone: 303-960-8129 Email:paul@digdeepsports.com Swimming in the frigid waters of Lake Peterson, west of Boulder Colorado, at almost 9,000' of elevation is what many people would consider a unique and somewhat crazy way to start a Sunday morning in August. But, that's exactly what the 300+ athletes will do at the start of the XTERRA Indian Peaks in Nederland, Colorado beginning at 9:30am on August 8th. After the nippy 1000m swim, where athletes are started every 3 seconds based upon their mountain biking ability and estimated swim time, they will don their running shoes for a 600 meter run UP to the transition area. The bike is where the real fun begins, as they head out on a new 24km course for 2010. This two-loop bike course will offer some steep and loose climbs, some tight downhills and above all some spectacular scenery of the nearby Indian Peaks Wilderness Area. Both the bike and run courses use the trails of the Eldora Resort Nordic Center. Because the trails are on private land not open in the summer, the XTERRA Indian Peaks triathlon offers people a chance to ride on a once-in-a-summer course. After grinding out the bike course, the athletes will charge out on what many have commented is the best run course on the XTERRA Planet. It is most often a wide single track that goes up and down and meanders through the forest, through a marsh, and eventually along the beautiful Lakes Loop. The finish will bring a great feast of pizza, beer, sodas, live music, massage and great prizes. Don't miss out on the fun on August 8th only 35 minutes west of Boulder. Past champions include 3-time world champion Melanie McQuaid, Brandon Rakita, Jennifer Smith, and Greg Krause. Once again many of the sports pros are expected as they chase the $2,000 in prize money.
