Press and Media CenterCelebrate the Soltice with XTERRA in La Grande, ORXTERRA SolsticeDate: June 19, 2010
We begin the event with a spaghetti feed for carbo-loading and socializing at the director's house Friday night. As many competitors camp (for free), right up at Morgan Lake, (one of the most primo, pristine areas you'll ever see), this is a great way to spend the evening - smoozing with other excited athletes. The course begins with a 1K swim at 4100 ft. The water is COLD. Wet/dry suits are recommended as are neoprene hats and earplugs. The 25-30K mountain bike terrain is fire roads, trails, mud, rocks, single track and beautiful scenery. The 10K run is a rocky, hilly course with great vistas. The course is challenging, difficult and not for the "feint of heart." Go to: solsticetriathlon.com for a good course description. Here are some comments from past competitors: "…bike course was hard but fair. There were fast descents for the brave, an assortment of climbs for me, lots of single-track,…..it rewarded the mountain biker with the best all around skills." "The run course was very difficult, but it was good for me…..I think XTERRA courses should be tough, and should include "real" bike courses and cross country runs. I was completely toasted at the finish." In 2009, Jason Jablonski and Kerri Grosse set new records for the first time in 7 years. The challenge is there - come break their records! At the finish you'll find a massage waiting for you, great food and lots of drawings and prizes to finish off an awesome day! |
