First Team Competition Ends in A Tie!
Remarkably, the first team competition of 2010 ended in a tie with both Cal Zaryski's Critical Speed team and Cody Waite's EPC squad finishing with 457 points at the XTERRA West Championship Sunday.
The Critical Speed team from Canada included four age group division winners for a perfect 400 points, however, they received just 57 bonus points which are based on the number of competitors in that person's division.
EPC, on the other hand, boasted the 3rd and 4th place finishers from the most competitive division (40-44) plus division champs in two other categories including overall amateur champ Jason Michalak (pictured). Thus, although their base points were just 357, they tacked on 100 bonus points to come up with an identical score as that of Critical Speed. MelRad Racing came in 3rd with 396 points and the XTERRA ambassadors squad finished 4th with 389.
Note: It's the second year XTERRA has hosted the team competition at regional championship events, held purely for "bragging rights". This is how it works: Teams designate four amateur athletes from at least three different divisions (all men, all women, co-ed, it doesn't matter).
Each of the teams four designated racers are scored on their finishing position in their division, and in addition, each member receives an additional point for every finisher in their division. Most points win.
