XTERRA Portugal Debuts April 3

The inaugural XTERRA Portugal Championship on April 3 will mark the start of the 2010 XTERRA European Tour.

Race organizers have a full slate of events on tap including an XTERRA Kids race, Beach Run, Bike Night Challenge, half-distance sport race, relay team competition, and of course the main event – the XTERRA Portugal Championship - that dishes out 34 qualifying spots to XTERRA Worlds and 15,000 Euros for pros.

The host city is Figueira da Foz, home to a gigantic sandy beach that is the country's largest, stretching for more than two miles. “It is so wide, that it is a good five-minute walk across the sand to the sea,” says one travel website.

This small town on the central coast is popular with surfers, tourists, and gamblers who flock to the Casino Peninsular – one of the biggest casinos on Portugal’s Silver Coast – and is sure to be hit with the XTERRA Tribe.
