"Return of the King" Makes National News

Max KingMax King (pictured) has the eyes of the running world clearly focused on the XTERRA Trail Run National Championship in Bend on Sunday, as the lead story on Runner's World previews the race, his accomplishments on the trail, and some of the other elite runners that call Oregon home.

In the article written by Nathan Dinsdale steeplechase specialist Ben Bruce (pictured), who placed second to King at Nationals in 2008, says "Max is an animal. He's run everything from steeple to half-marathons to marathons to ultras. He's already tough to beat, and then when you throw in the terrain of a trail race, it really becomes a tall order."

Ben Bruce"Trail running is almost easier for me than a road or track race," King says of his affinity for the trail. "You have to constantly adjust to adverse conditions—bad weather, rough trails, steep hills, sharp corners—and for me that kind of adversity is what makes a good race. The tougher the course, the better."

The weather forecast is calling for a picture perfect sunny day in Bend with a high of 82-degrees for the half-marathon on the banks of the Deschutes River on Sunday.
