Gardner, Carey Win XTERRA Japan

Sam Gardner defending his title at the XTERRA Japan Championship in Marunuma on Saturday, edging Takahiro Ogasawara (same as last year) by just 52 seconds.  Long-time XTERRA pro Yu Yumoto from Japan finished third, followed by Australia's Matthew Murphy.  In the women's race Saipan's Mieko Carey stormed past Aussie pro Kylee Lock.  The age group winners were Toshiyuki Furuya and Akiko Saito.
