Press and Media CenterXTERRA East / West Coast OriginalsThe XTERRA America Tour regular season comes to a close this weekend with a pair of classics – the Schiff Scout off-road tri in Wading River, New York and XTERRA Lake Tahoe in Nevada. Both races were contested in the very first year of the XTERRA U.S. Championship Series in 2001 and have been mainstays on the Tour ever since due to the pure beauty and epic nature of the courses.
Brian Brett from Dirty Events, the local organizer for Schiff Scout, puts on the only 100% off-road race series on Long Island with all of his races held on the pristine Schiff Scout Boy Scout Reservation in Wading River. The 400-acre camp has a network of awesome mountain bike and running trails along with a beautiful spring fed lake. The race is on Sunday, Aug. 30, and on Saturday XTERRA ambassador Ken Robins is hosting a free clinic to help newcomers and seasoned vets alike survive and excel at this particular event. On the other side of the country awaits the Big Blue and the course so many have known through the years as the trail of champions. This cold-water swim in crystal clear Lake Tahoe, the famous Flume Trail on the mountain bike, and the twisting trail run through the trees in Incline Village was a rite of passage for the sports’ best from 2001-2008. And while the XTERRA USA Championship moved to Utah, the importance of this event as the last point series race in the West is undeniable. The age group battles for qualifying spots to nationals and regional championship titles should be legendary, with so many of the sports best riders facing off in a prelude to the season finale. Both races are still accepting registrations so amateurs from around the country can go East - or go West - for one last chance to stake their claim in the XTERRA America Tour. |
