Five XTERRA Races On Tap This Weekend

FIVE XTERRA RACES ON TAP THIS WEEKEND

A trio of XTERRA Off-Road Tris and a pair of XTERRA Trail Runs mark the first full weekend of racing in 2008, a sure sign that spring is in full swing.

Aussie pro Andrew Noble is at XTERRA Guam trying to win his third race in the Western Pacific this month, while amateur stand-out Phil Glenn hopes to defend his XTERRA REAL crown in Northern California.

There's another exotic race in South Florida with the annual XTERRA Miami taking place in Oleta River State Park, a 10-mile trail run just outside of Sacramento and an 8k near Portland, OR.

Whatever your passion, where ever you live, there's certain to be an XTERRA adventure nearby this year.  Check out the XTERRA America Tour or XTERRA Trail Run Series schedule for more than 100 opportunities to play.

XTERRA DUATHLON IN TEMECULA, MAY 18

Nestled in the tranquil hills of Temecula Valley, Vail Lake Resort is a secluded and serene venue with lots of hills and tons of great mountain biking trails.  This May 17-18, for the fourth year in a row, it will serve as host to the biggest gathering of XTERRA multisport athletes in California.

One-way to get even more mountain bikers into the mix is to take water out of the equation.  That’s what XTERRA does in Temecula with the XTERRA Duathlon.

It’s the equivalent of the XTERRA Sport competition, with a run replacing the 750-meter swim.  Competitors start with a 3k (1.9 mile) off-road trail run, follow with a 15k (9.3 mile) mountain bike, and finish with a 5k (3.1 mile) scramble.  It’s open to athletes of all ages and skill levels; and relay teams too. The rugged off-road trails are identical to those being used for the main event, the XTERRA West Championship.  The mountain bike course is challenging and fun, and rewards riders with panoramic views of Temecula Valley at each peak.

For the campfire types, the XTERRA experience doesn’t get much better than in Temecula - Tent camping with friends - toasting marshmallows at night, then rolling out of a sleeping bag in the morning just a couple hundred yards from the XTERRA Village down at the lake.

This is the lure of Vail Lake Resort, and for just $25 a night - eight athletes (or four athletes and four friends – whatever) can rent themselves a prime piece of SoCal soil to pitch a tent and prep for XTERRA’s first major U.S. Sports Festival of the season.  There’s a race for everyone, young and old, and plenty of great food and entertainment.

There are RV hook-ups too, equipped with 30 & 50 Amps, water, power, and sewer.  Even for those not racing, it’s a great way to get a break from the bustle of the city and watch some world-class athletes in action.  For campsite reservations call toll-free 1-866-VAIL-LAKE or email vaillakeresort@yahoo.com.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WINE COUNTRY

Nestled in the tranquil rolling hills of Temecula Valley in the heart of Southern California’s beautiful wine country, Vail Lake Resort is a peaceful oasis located on Highway 79 South, nine miles east of Highway 15 and 15 miles east of Old Town Temecula. It’s an idyllic spot to spend a weekend camping with family and friends, and the XTERRA rates can’t be beat.
