The 2007 XTERRA USA Championship TV Show Has Started its Run
THIS WEEK: The 2007 XTERRA USA Championship TV show has started its run in national syndication and will be on the ABC affiliate in Denver this Sunday at 2pm, the last XTERRA Trail Run of the year is Sunday in Newport Beach, California, an updated XTERRA America Tour schedule with several new races – including ones in Ohio and New Mexico – is attached, and details on how XTERRA Winter athletes can race in the U.S. Snowshoe Championships.
UPCOMING TRAIL RUNS:
12/16 – XTERRA Crystal Cove Trail Run (Laguna Beach, CA)
1/12 – XTERRA Boney Mountain Trail Run (Thousand Oaks, CA)
THE LAST TRAIL RUN OF 2007: After nearly 40 XTERRA Trail Running races across the country, the last stop for the 2007 calendar is the XTERRA Crystal Cove Trail Run in Newport Beach, California this Sunday, Dec. 16. AND unless you’re already registered, you’ll have to sit this one out as it sold-out more than a month ago.
Some big name triathletes and runners will be in attendance including former Ironman World Champ Heather Fuhr and esteemed triathlon coach and author Paul Huddle.
The race has two distances, a 5k for runners of all ages and skill levels and a 15k for those in search of a true challenge. The course runs through fire roads and single-track trails in the El Moro area of Crystal Cove State park (The Park is located off Pacific Coast Highway between Corona del Mar and Laguna Beach). The rustic setting with undeveloped woodlands is a perfect escape for anyone looking to get into nature and run off some of the pre holiday stress.
A portion of the proceeds benefit Children's Hospital Los Angeles, which was founded in 1901. Children's Hospital Los Angeles has been treating the most seriously ill and injured children in Los Angeles for more than a century.
Up Next: Because the XTERRA Boney Mountain Race was cancelled due to the rampant fires in California in October, it has been rescheduled for January 12, 2008. This event is a killer 21K or 5K run in thousand Oaks, CA.
2008 SNOWSHOE SERIES: On day three of the XTERRA Winter World Championship festival weekend (March 7-9) the best snowshoers in the country will compete for national championships on the exquisitely groomed Nordic trails at Snowbasin Resort in Utah.
The PowerSox U.S. National Snowshoe Championship is expected to attract several hundred qualified runners as the last stop in the 22-race series that stretches into 17 States across the nation.
“We are extremely excited to be at Snowbasin, it is an awesome site with amazing facilities,” said Mark Elmore, the Sports Director for the USSSA. “We’re looking forward to an outstanding National event that will bring unprecedented recognition and participation to snowshoeing.”
There will be several USSSA (United States Snowshoe Association) National Titles up-for-grabs including the boys & girls junior national 5k, senior women’s national 10k, and senior men’s national 10k.
In order for athletes to compete in the Junior or Senior National Championship events they must first qualify at one of the regional qualifier events listed on the schedule below. To see the specifics on how to qualify visit the “rules” section at XTERRAWinter.com or visit the USSSA website at snowshoeracing.com.
XTERRA Pro Josiah Middaugh from Vail, Colorado claimed the 2002 and 2003 USSSA National Title’s and fellow XTERRA stand-out Greg Krause won it all in 2004. Greg Hexum from Duluth, MN has won the last two men’s championships while Nikki Kimball of Bozeman, Montana has won four of the last seven women’s title’s including last year’s.
In addition to the invite-only snowshoe races on Sunday there will also be a citizens 5k, kid’s kilo, and relay races available to all-comers. Snowbasin, well known as the home of the downhill competitions of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games, is located in the spectacular Wasatch-Cache National Forest only 43 miles from downtown Salt Lake City and 17 miles from the adventure capital of Ogden.
