Nevada Passage has opened up two competitor slots to the general public

THIS WEEK:

The XTERRA-type adventure competition known as the Nevada Passage has opened up two competitor slots to the general public for next year’s six-day, four-stage made-for-TV event (see how they’ll get picked below) and our very own Kahuna St. Nick puts his annual spin on a seasonal gem.

NEVADA PASSAGE OPEN AUDITION:

In each of the past two years TEAM Unlimited, the owners and producers of XTERRA, have traveled thousands of miles across the Silver State of Nevada televising athletes competing in a series of adventure sports and excursions for a one-hour show called the Nevada Passage.  The intent is to promote Nevada as a premier adventure destination to TV audiences across the U.S.

The show features 10 hand-picked, two-person, co-ed teams paired by profession competing against each other in various adventures and in a new twist for 2007, the public is being invited to “audition” for two of the 20 competitor spots.  Tentatively scheduled for May 7-12, the Nevada Passage will include off-road running, desert biking, ATV racing, and backcountry skiing in locations ranging from the Valley of Fire State Park and Amargosa Dunes to Mount Rose and Carson City.

The open audition creates a once-in-a-lifetime chance for a lucky adventurer to experience the thrill of participating in an outdoors competition/reality television show that will be broadcast around the country.  Online auditions, information and rules for “The Nevada Passage” can be found at www.nevadapassage.com, where viewers can also watch the 2005 and 2006 shows.  Required audition materials include a short video of the applicant stating why he or she should be selected as a competitor and a completed application.  Audition materials must be submitted before Jan. 31, 2007.

The first one-hour “The Nevada Passage” adventure reality show began nationwide syndication in August 2005 and has already aired in more than 100 markets on ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox and UPN affiliates as well as eight regional cable networks and 11 resort networks. Viewers in top metropolitan markets such as New York, Philadelphia, Washington D.C. and Los Angeles have seen both seasons of “The Nevada Passage,” which will air through February 2007 and then be available online.  Along with reaching approximately 5.4 million television viewers with the two shows, news stories about the “The Nevada Passage” have drawn attention to Nevada’s outdoor adventure with nearly two hours of combined television news coverage and 500 print and Internet articles.

T’WAS THE NIGHT BEFORE XTERRA:

In what has become an annual tradition for the jolly Ol’ Man of XTERRA – Dave “Kahuna St. Nick” Nicholas shares with us this X-Mas classic…

T'was the night before XTERRA and all round the isle

Athletes were sleeping,

On their faces

A Smile

They dreamed of flying downhill

Passing Conrad and Lebrun

Finishing FIRST People screaming

“you are the ONE”

When out on the beach

There arose such a clatter

They threw open their doors

To see what was the matter

After 10 years you’d think

The Old man be asleep

But no he was working

Holding a favorite Adult drink

With a staple gun and hammer

He placed arrows so quick

They knew in a moment

It was Kahuna Saint Nick

He called out the racers

And quickly they came

The rode and they ran

And he called them by name

On Nico on Jamie

On Eneko and Mel

Ride fast all you 500

Go fast as Hell

Tomorrow is the day

You’ve trained for all year

No time to be wimpy

No time for much fear

Watch everywhere you go

Tready lightly when it’s bad

But go for the glory

When the trail makes you glad

“First you must finish

To finish First” Said St. Nick

So hydrate and eat

If you want to be quick

Tomorrow night will be fun

Whether you win or you lose

No difference if  unscarred

Or covered with a bruise

You made it, you came

You raced hard and you tried

Maybe you’ll be the bridesmaid

Or maybe the bride

Very few others

The herd and the crowd

Can do what you do

Of you I am proud

He finished his beer

In a flash he was gone

His voice lingered after

“In the Morning, On the Lawn”

I’ll see you 500

You’re all heroes to me

And then we will party

I’m sure you agree…
