First Group of Athletes Invited to Nationals

NATIONALS BOUND:  The first round of invitations to compete in the 2006 Nissan Xterra USA Championship race in Lake Tahoe, Nevada on October 1st were sent out this week to a select few racers that have assured their qualification by securing max-points in their division.  The list is a virtual who's-who in amateur XTERRA racing with names like Kalyn English, Jeremy Chandler, Courtney Cardenas, and reigning national champions David Cloninger, Tom Lyons, Kent Robison, as well as XTERRA World Champion Peter Wood.

Cloninger has had a particularly fantastic season so far, having dropped to his knees after crossing the finish line at the Nissan Xterra West Championship in Temecula, CA and proposing to his girlfriend.  She said yes and they tied the knot a month later at the Solstice Triathlon in La Grande, OR.  For their honeymoon they ventured to France and caught a couple stages of the Tour de France.  Defending his 35-39 Title in Tahoe is his next goal.

SCRAMBLE FOR THE Y:  On August 5, the day before the Nissan Xterra Midwest Championship, participants in the XTERRA Milwaukee Scramble 5k and 10k trail runs will realize they've got themselves into something far from ordinary.  Unlike any road run, these are sand slippin', stair-climbing, tree-ducking, mud-sloshing adventures!   It's all in the name of fun, and to help a great cause - the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee One-on-One mentoring programs.
Why just run, when you can Scramble!

SAN FRAN SCRAMBLIN':  The inaugural San Francisco Bay Area XTERRA Scramble Trail Run is just a few weeks away on August 6 at the renowned Mt. Tamalpais - the birthplace of mountain biking.  At this race Scramblers are treated to switchbacks, elevation, the Pacific Ocean and infamous Dipsea Trail, spectacular redwoods, wooden footbridges, wet creek jumps, music at the compound and a post-race BBQ party. There's a 3-mile out and back run/walk and a 6.5-mile full loop course.  For more info visit pacwestathletics.com.
