Scramble series off and running
The XTERRA Scramble Series is off and running and had a hugely successful debut with its first non-XTERRA Championship run in Baltimore last weekend where more than 300 runners maneuvered their way through the vines, slopes and valleys of the Charm City XTERRA Scramble 5k.
Tomorrow, Thursday Aug. 25, Hartford, Connecticut takes center stage with the Twilight Riverfront Trail XTERRA Scramble 5k. More than 500 participants are expected for this inaugural event, which will send runners across the majestic Connecticut River and along Great River Park.
It ends at Riverfront Plaza where the smell of burgers on the grill and the sounds of summer provided by Changes in Latitude, a nine-piece Jimmy Buffet Tribute Band, will complement the screams from cheering crowds as participants embrace the post race party of the summer. Like all XTERRA Scramble events, the race will fulfill the XTERRA Foundation's mission of reaching out to kids by having both a direct financial benefit and the chance to participate. In Hartford the beneficiary is the Compass Youth Collaborative, an organization aiming to raise the expectations of urban youth. In partnerships with schools, parents and other organizations, Compass endeavors to equip middle school age youth with skills and attitudes necessary for success. The inception of the XTERRA Scramble Series came from the XTERRA Foundation's goal to reach out to at-risk children and teach them how to deal with adversity and competition at an early age. The more opportunity a child has, the better the odds for a successful outcome. Learn more at xterraplanet.com/foundation.
