XTERRA Scramble Heats Things Up in Baltimore

Baltimore, MD Local Baltimore runner Joe Smith won the
inaugural Charm City XTERRA Scramble 5k at the Boordy Vineyard Sunday with a
winning time of 16:14.  Twenty-three year old twin sisters Lucinda Hull and
Claudin Hull of Darnestown, Maryland took the top two female honors with
times of 17:44 and 18:27 respectively.

The intense August weather wasn't the only hot item on Sunday.  More than
300 runners experienced an XTERRA Scramble event, giving them the
opportunity to run off road and meet head on the challenges of nature.
Runners maneuvered their way through the vines, slopes and valleys and off
road elements the Boordy Vineyard provided.

"It was exciting to sell out our first XTERRA Scramble event in Baltimore,"
noted veteran race producer Dave Cooley.  "The weather conditions were
extreme, but the excitement of the trail experience and the post race
festivities of wine, blue grass music and great atmosphere at the Boordy
Vineyard really had people smiling and enjoying the evening."

Temperatures of 88 degrees plus heavy humidity did add to the challenge of
the evening event, sending two participants to the hospital due to the heat.
Both individuals were treated in the emergency room at Upper Chesapeake
Hospital and both were released without being admitted.

Aside from the fun and in your face race experience for participants, the
St. Joseph Medical Center's Heart Institute will receive more than $1000.00
from the XTERRA Scramble in Baltimore in conjunction with the XTERRA
Foundation.

The Scramble Trail Series continues next week in Hartford, Connecticut on
August 24.  There are many opportunities throughout the country to
participate in this Series.  Visit www.xterraplanet.com for the entire
schedule and registration options.

XTERRA began as an off-road, multi-sport competition on Maui in 1996.  From
there it has grown into the XTERRA Global Tour including over 90 events in
14 countries with thousands of participants.  XTERRA is now the word's
fastest growing multi-sport event.

XTERRA's philosophy plays into every event initiated and produced:  "We are
a world community, accessible to anyone with enough heart and determination
to defy physical difficulty.  Mother Nature is our greatest competitor.  We
transcend national borders.  We are brought together by a shared challenge
and we are forged in spirit, friendship and respect."
