XTERRA Scramble coming to Hartford, CT

XTERRA is a name associated with worldwide adventure, extreme multi-sport events and challenges that touch the soul of every participating athlete.  XTERRA is now bringing that same spirit to Hartford and other cities across the country for the recreational athlete. 

The XTERRA® Trail Run Scramble Series offers "do-able adventures" for runners looking for the challenge only nature and XTERRA can offer -leaping over rocks and roots, climbing hills and trails, and running through creeks and ravines.  A SCRAMBLE is a twisting, turning escape from pounding the pavement.  A SCRAMBLE is fun.

It's not your ordinary weekend run.  It's an off-the-wall, in-your-face challenge that puts nature at the forefront and tests your determination and endurance.  XTERRA has been to Harford with a Triathlon event, but the new Scramble will provide a totally different opportunity for adventure.  The XTERRA Scramble event in Hartford will take the runner through 3.1 miles of wet sand, dirt paths, rocky hills, grassy knolls, stair climbs and a little asphalt. 

The Twilight Riverfront Trail XTERRA Scramble 5k will take place on Thursday, August 25, 2005 in Hartford.  Runners will start above the majestic Connecticut River on the Founders Bridge Promenade, cross over the river on Founders Bridge and take the stairs down onto the path along Great River Park.  The course continues south past the boat ramp and amphitheatre, next forcing runners to wade through the Hockanum River to the Staircase of the Charter Oak Bridge.  Runners will cross the bridge and continue north through the park along the riverbank.  The challenging off-road trail will finish beneath Riverfront Plaza. 

"This course is sure to get you wet, maybe curse a little, and definitely get you dirty, but feeling the gut wrenching fortitude it will take to get that that finish line with a smile," noted race director Beth Shluger and producer of the Hartford Marathon and other noteworthy running events in the area.

The smell of burgers on the grill and the sounds of summer provided by Changes in Latitude, a Jimmy Buffet Tribute Band, will complement the screams from cheering crowds as participants climb back up to the Riverfront Plaza for a post race party of the summer!
