Puerto Rico Series Set to Return for 2012-13 Season

After a successful first season in 2011-12, the XTERRA Puerto Rico Trail Run Series is back by popular demand.

Vega AltaThe XTERRA Vega Alta Trail Run is scheduled for Sunday, November 18, at Cerro Gordo, Puerto Rico. It will be the first event of the 2012-13 season for the Puerto Rico Series.

"The trail is impressively beautiful - ocean-side dense palms and trees provide a jungle feeling, but a few vegetation openings with scenic beach views remind you that you are at the edge of the astonishing Atlantic sea shore," said Puerto Rico series director Efrain Cardona. "We are expecting over 300 runners."

The event will feature two courses - a 10-kilometer two-loop course, and a 5K single loop course. Both courses are open to runners of all ages and skill levels.

The Puerto Rico Trail Run Series made its debut on the XTERRA circuit a year ago, and has already shown tremendous growth since. Cardona estimated that the participation numbers increased by 300 percent from the start of last season.

"A lot of people are hearing about these races and want to come out and see what it's about," he said. "The ones who come out have a great time and want to come back for more."
