Freedom Fest Trail Run Draws 361 Runners to Kualoa Ranch

Ciralli, Anderson take top honors in 10K race

After a victorious run at Kualoa Ranch last weekend, John Ciralli and Cindy Anderson will get another chance in December.

Ciralli was the overall winner and Anderson was the top female at the XTERRA Freedom Fest Trail Run on Saturday, July 7. The 10-kilometer race was staged at the picturesque Kualoa Ranch, Hawaii. It is the same venue for the XTERRA Trail Run World Championship, which is held every December.

As the top runners at the Freedom Fest Trail Run, Ciralli and Anderson each received a free entry to the 2012 XTERRA Trail Run World Championship.

"It was such a wonderful prize to receive a free entry into the race," Anderson said. "I love the Trail Run Worlds; it is a very challenging race, and living on the East coast of Oahu in Kailua, the event is so close to home."

Anderson is no stranger to success at Kualoa Ranch. She won the women's title at the 2008 XTERRA Trail Run World Championship, placed second in 2009, and fourth last year.

"I really enjoyed the course, it was challenging but in great condition," she said. "There was one water crossing that caught me by surprise, but added to the adventure.  The first two to three miles were the most challenging for me. There was a lot of climbing, but the last half of the race felt great and was familiar from the XTERRA World Championship race in December with the single track winding trails and gravel road climb."

Ciralli placed first overall with a time of 41:06, which was more than two minutes faster than any other runner. Jason Homestead was second in 43:13, and Eric Kollai was third in 43:30.

Anderson placed fifth overall in 44:08. Tara Redshaw was the second female in 46:47.
