Scott, Stockton Make it Look Easy From Start to Finish at XTERRA DINO Versailles

Unlike last year, Mother Nature cooperated by providing warm and dry summer weather for the XTERRA DINO Versailles race at Versailles State Park in Indiana.

On the swim, the bright sunlight made sighting the buoys difficult for some. Still, it was Chris Scott of Morrison, Illinois who led the group out of the lake. Just a little over a minute back was the first female, Mimi Stockton of Stevensville, Michigan.

Over the course of the race, Scott and Stockton continued to build on this lead as both posted the fastest bike splits.

Among the men, Blake Voges of Santa Claus, Indiana had the second fastest bike split and began the run in second overall. Voges had earlier won overall at XTERRA Scales Lake, also in Indiana. But on his heels and in his first XTERRA since 2008 was veteran Tim Menoher of Erlanger, Kentucky.

Stockton absolutely nailed the 13-mile singletrack that featured plenty of tight turns, scenic vistas, and even a waterfall. Her bike split was 4 minutes faster than all the other women racers.

But the treacherous, rocky 5-mile run course belonged to Sara Bohall of St. Louis. Bohall, a former college sprinter, had the fourth overall fastest run split. Even still, it was not enough to catch Stockton who finished in 2:14:45.  Heather Coddington from Indianapolis rounded out the top three.

In the men's race, Scott cruised to victory with a time of 1:54:25 - the only competitor to break 2 hours. Menoher's quick run moved him into second. Voges took third by holding off a late charge by Samuel Pearson of Cincinnati, who had the fastest run split for the day.

With the excellent courses and weather made for a good number of smiles at the finish line - for racers and staff.
