XTERRA Farragut and the "best XTERRA run course" Did Not Disappoint

Kristin Francis, XREP

The second-annual XTERRA Farragut did not disappoint. With sunny blue skies and seventy-degree temps, XTERRA competitors enjoyed perfect racing conditions. Due to the unseasonably cold spring and mid-forty degree water temperatures, race directors made a race-day safety decision to limit the swim to one lap of the 750m course on the beautiful, but chilly Lake Pend Oreille. After one lap, competitors raced up steep stairs and a grassy hill to reach the transition area next to the event compound. Once on their bikes, competitors completed two loops of the beautifully treed single-track course. After clearing transition, competitors hit the technical single track along the lake. This six-mile run course has been called, "the best XTERRA run course" of the series.

42 year-old Canadian Cal Zaryski won the men's race with a time of 2:33:36. Eric Atwood and Kristopher Holden had a sprint finish for second and third. With a time of 2:58:11, Kerri Grosse was the first woman across the finish line with nearly a nine-minute lead over second place, Kaileen Uibel.

Post-race activities included a free athlete BBQ with hot dogs, hamburgers, and veggie burgers. The top three age group winners were awarded with cool medals. Prizes were also raffled.
The XTERRA event was one of thirteen events taking place during the Adventure Sports Week festivities.
