Lost Shoe Doesn't Stop XTERRA Winner

(Coatesville, PA) – Two days of rain leading up to the XTERRA Hibernia Park Blast Trail Run made for what runner Derek Schultz called “shoe sucking mud trails on a nice, sunny night.” No one can attest to this better than overall winner Dan Dix who ran the last half mile of the course with just one shoe after losing it in the tough, sticky mud.

The nail-biting men’s race came down to a ten second lead by Coatesville’s own Dan Dix and his five kilometer winning time of 16:06 over XTERRA newcomer Rich Bounds of Newark, Delaware. Dix has taken the XTERRA Philly Series by storm winning four of five races in 2009 and starting the 2010 season with a win just two weeks ago. York’s James Rayburn rounded out the top three in 16:24 after placing runner-up at the XTERRA Warwick Park Revenge.

No shoes were lost, but the women’s race was just as thrilling as Lancaster’s Charity Burkhart took a great six-second win over Glenna Champion in just 20:01. Charity took second at the first race of the season, but with winner Bianca Simpson on the sidelines with a cold, she took the open door and moved into first last night. Quakertown’s Jerilyn Kucharski, a regular series standout took third in 21:03.

The XTERRA Hibernia Park Blast Trail Run was the second of five races in the 2010 XTERRA Philly Trail Run Series. The top 15 runners in each age group will be awarded points toward their series totals, and those with the highest scores after the fifth and final race will be crowned XTERRA Philly Regional Champions and win free entry into the XTERRA Trail Running National Championship on September 18th in Bend, Oregon.

From there, runners can race at the spectacular Kualoa Ranch on the exotic, Hawaiian island of Oahu at the December 5th XTERRA Trail Running World Championship. No qualification is necessary, so all are welcome to come and race at this 4,000-acre ranch where major productions like Jurassic Park, Godzilla and LOST have been filmed.
