Bryden, Cieslewicz win XTERRA Lake Las Vegas 21k



Twenty-three-year-old Jordan Bryden from Calgary, Canada and 30-year-old Rachel Cieslewicz from Salt Lake City, Utah won the XTERRA Lake Las Vegas half-marathon trail run today at Loews Lake Las Vegas Resort in Henderson, Nevada.

Jordan BrydenBryden went stride-for-stride with Salt Stick founder Jonathan Toker (Newbury Park, CA) for nearly the entire 13-mile rugged, rocky, and dusty course until the final 100-yards when he fearlessly bombed the final downhill just before the finish line. Bryden’s winning time was 1:20:54, just nine seconds in front of Toker who came in at 1:21:03.

In the women’s race Cieslewicz was in a class by herself, and finished in 1:31:40 (good for 3rd place overall). The runner-up was Kara Henry from Los Angeles in 1:37:25.

Jordan Bryden and Rachel CieslewiczFor their efforts both Bryden and Cieslewicz earned 80,000 miles from Hawaiian Airlines, good for two round-trips to the Hawaiian Islands. Bryden will use his to race in the XTERRA World Championship off-road triathlon in Maui on October 24, while Cieslewicz will trade her miles for a ticket to Oahu to race in the XTERRA Trail Run World Championship at Kualoa Ranch on December 5.

There were also 5km and 10km trail races this morning. Thomas Taylor from Phoenix, Arizona (36:18) and Juddith Waller from Henderson, Nevada (54:43) won the 10k, while Steven Dean from Las Vegas (20:38) and Mackenzie Gladue from Cochrane, Canada (24:51) won the 5k races.

The races were part of the XTERRA West Championship sports festival which continues tomorrow with the main event, an off-road tri combining a 1-mile swim, 17-mile mountain bike, and 6-mile trail run. For complete results and more information visit www.xterraplanet.com.
