Bauer, Budden Keep Up XTERRA Winning Streak

(Bethpage, NY) – Runners flocked from all over Long Island to race in today’s XTERRA Bethpage Trail Run. After winning the first race in the XTERRA Long Island Trail Run Series last month, Chris Bauer and Kristin Budden both continued their winning streaks by turning in the fastest overall times in the five-kilometer event held at Bethpage State Park.

Bauer’s winning time of 18:38 was good enough to edge out Roy Sevigny of Ridgefield park, NJ and Sal Farruggia of Floral Park, NY who crossed the line just two seconds apart with their times of 19:20 and 19:22 respectively.

In the women’s race, Kristin Budden of Rye Brook, NY was able to hold onto her reigning champion title by repeating as the first place finisher in 21:22. Christina Salgado of South Setauket finished second in 22:26 while Medford’s Michelle Homan rounded out the podium in 23:50.

After a snowy start to the season, runners welcomed warmer conditions at this second of four races in the 2010 XTERRA Long Island Trail Run Series. The top runners in each age group will be awarded points toward their season totals and those with the highest scores after the finale will be crowned XTERRA Long Island Regional Champions and earn free entry into the XTERRA Trail Running National Championship in beautiful Bend, Oregon on September 18th.

From there, runners of all levels are invited to race on the spectacular Hawaiian island of Oahu at the December 5th XTERRA Trail Running World Championship. Set at the historic and breathtaking Kualoa Ranch, the event leads runners through the very location where major productions like Jurassic Park, Godzilla and LOST have been filmed.
