XTERRA Runners Prepare for Battle at Black Mountain

RACE #6 IN THE 2010 XTERRA SoCAL TRAIL RUN SERIES

San Diego’s Black Mountain Regional Park will play host to the sixth race in the 2010 XTERRA SoCal Trail Run Series on March 14th. Known for its speed with few hills for runners to challenge, the second annual XTERRA Black Mountain Trail Run features the main 15-kilometer distance alongside a shorter 5km adventure for those new to the trail running scene.

According to race director Brennan Lindner of Generic Events, “This course is fast and a hidden gem amongst the sprawl of San Diego. This is the fastest race in the XTERRA SoCal Trail Series, and with twists, turns, and a few creek crossings, it’s going to be a great one.”

Last year’s star-studded athletic field attracted names like triathlon legends Heather Fuhr and Paula Newby-Fraser, and with limited entry spots, participants are encouraged to register early. All runners will be handsomely rewarded with a free event t-shirt, a finisher medal, a hot post-race breakfast and the chance at winning some great race swag including includes two free certificates for the new XTERRA Footwear line. Subaru will also be raffling off a new Gary Fisher Mountain Bike to anyone who test drives one of their on-site vehicles.

Top runners in the day’s long distance will be awarded points toward their 2010 XTERRA SoCal Series totals, and with just one race following this event, participants will be going after them as if they were gold. Those with the highest scores at the end of the season will be crowned XTERRA SoCal Regional Champions and win free entry to the XTERRA Trail Running National Championship on September 18th in Bend, Oregon.

From there, runners are invited to race on the beautiful Hawaiian island of Oahu for the December 5th XTERRA Trail Running World Championship. For more information about the 2010 XTERRA Trail Run Series, visit www.xterratrailrun.com.

When: Sunday, March 14, 2010: 15km – 8:00am / 5km – 8:30am.
Where: Black Mountain Regional Park – San Diego, CA
Entry Fee: 15km - $60, 5k - $40 (until March 12) / 15km - $65, 5km - $45 (race day if available)
Swag: All participants get a race t-shirt, finisher medal and a hot, post-race breakfast.
Aid / Water Stations: At miles 1.2, 3.3, 6.0, 7.0 and finish.
