Mooney, McCann Victorious at XTERRA Trail Run

(Royston, GA) – Georgia runners burned off those Thanksgiving calories at this morning’s XTERRA Victoria Bryant State Park Trail Run, and it was Tara Mooney and Ian McCann who took home the top prizes.

A beautiful fall morning set the stage as McCann, 26, turned in the fastest time of the day with his 10-kilometer time of 38:17. Just thirteen seconds later came Smyrna resident Thomas Carroll, 36, while XTERRA Battle at Big Creek winner Josh Horsager, 31, took home third place in 41:13.

XTERRA Georgia Series superstar Tara Mooney, 26, won the women’s race in 48:07. This Kennesaw local was a 2009 XTERRA Regional Champion and continues her streak as the reigning 2010 leader in her age group as well. Lisa Marshall, 45 of Alpharetta, won her second straight race in 49:30 and Sherry Bourrie, 37, rounded out the top three in 50:16.

The Victoria Bryant Trail Run was the fourth of six events in the 2010 XTERRA Georgia Trail Run Series. Top runners in today’s event will be awarded points toward their series totals, and those ending the season with the highest scores will be crowned XTERRA Regional Champions and given free entry to the XTERRA Trail Running National Championship next fall.

Up next in the series is the XTERRA Thrill in the Hills event in Winder on February 27, 2010. Along with the usual 21-kilometer distance, this will be the first opportunity for area runners to compete in one of XTERRA’s full marathon trail runs.
