Becraft, Goss Win First XTERRA SC Race for 2010

(Greenville, SC) – A beautiful morning kicked off the 2010 XTERRA South Carolina Trail Run Series yesterday morning at Paris Mountain State Park. With mostly local runners mixed in with a few athletes visiting from four other states, the season started with an 11-kilometer course following the spectacular rugged, rocky course in the majestic hills of update South Carolina.

Jeremy Becraft, 33 of Columbia, had the fastest time of the day in 47:54. Greenville local Jeff O’Connell, 22, and Spartanburg’s Taylor Shoulders, 21, claimed the men’s second and third places with their times of 48:25 and 49:51 respectively.

The women’s race crowned 21-year old Lauren Goss of Mount Pleasant as the winner after she crossed the finish line in 55:38. Less than a minute later Columbia’s Holly Ortlund, 35, seized the second place title, and Greenville’s own Ashley Anderson, 22, rounded out the top three in 59:48.

According to Greenville runner Tate Putnam, “It was a great course. It had some tough hills and some technical downhills but it was really a great run. I’m already looking forward to doing some more trail runs this next year.”

After a hugely successful inaugural 2009 season, the XTERRA South Carolina Trail Run Series is thrilled to be back with a brand new 2010 season. Top runners in this weekend’s race will be awarded points toward their series totals, and those ending the final race with the highest scores will be crowned XTERRA Regional Champions and win free entry to the XTERRA Trail Running National Championship coming up next fall.
