Hagues, Vall Take Titles at 2010 XTERRA Georgia Trail Run Series Start

(Dahlonega, GA) – Around 200 runners from seven states lined up at the start of the XTERRA Bull Mountain Half Marathon Trail Run this morning. As the first race in the 2010 XTERRA Georgia Trail Run Series, area runners were eager to start the season off strong, but it was Emily Anne Vall and Roger Hagues who took home the top titles.

In the men’s race, 26-year old Columbus, GA resident Hagues turned in the day’s fastest time of 1:31:56. Right behind him was Daniel Crane, 26 from Sandy Springs, and Tyler Jordan, 22, on his hometown trails placing second and third respectively with their times of 1:33:15 and 1:34:09.

For the women, Atlanta local Vall, 33, blew away the competition in 1:44:51, over 14 minutes faster than 27-year old 2008 XTERRA Regional Champion Tara Mooney from Kennesaw. Smyrna’s Kelly Thomas, 44, rounded out the top three in 2:01:46.

With the ever-growing popularity of the XTERRA Georgia Trail Run Series, race director Tim Schroer is back for 2010 bringing Atlanta area athletes six great reasons to “Ditch the City.” Each race will be an opportunity for runners to add points toward their season totals, and those ending the series with the highest scores will be crowned 2010 XTERRA Regional Champions and be awarded free entry to the XTERRA Trail Running National Championship next fall.

Georgia runners are also invited to race at this year’s XTERRA Trail Running World Championship on December 6th on the beautiful Hawaiian island of Oahu. Athletes can sprint, jog, or wander over the pristine landscape that has been home to major productions like Jurassic Park, Godzilla, and LOST.
