Kerrigan, Dock Win XTERRA Lake Placid Trail Run

(Lake Placid, NY) – Runners from nine states and a handful from Canada lined up at the start of the XTERRA Lake Placid Trail Runs on Saturday. Held the day before the XTERRA Lake Placid off-road triathlon event, the trail runs presented two distances, the main 10-kilometer race alongside a shorter 5-kilometer fun run.

The 10km men’s event crowned Ryan Kerrigan of Moretown, VT as the day’s top runner with his winning time of 49:41, just 3 seconds ahead of Saranac, NY resident Matthew Medeiros. Michael Talles of Lindenhurst, NY rounded out the top three in 52:59.

Melissa Dock was the pride of her hometown Lake Placid placing first in the women’s 10km and fifth overall with her time of 55:55. Just over three minutes behind her was 22-year old XTERRA New England Regional Champion Robyn Anderson of Stowe, VT. Also making the trip from Stowe, VT was Metzi Anderson coming in third clocking in at 1:04:42.

For the 5-kilometer race, Bloomingdale, New York’s Doug Hazelden was able to edge out Dave Kwiatkowski of Castorland by 44 seconds when he broke the tape in 29:04. For the women, Tory Sieglaff of Kennett Square, PA and Kate Poole of East Fairfield, PA placed first and second with their times of 36:42 and 37:31 respectively.

This was XTERRA’s inaugural visit to the breathtaking heart of the Adirondacks, and according to runner reports, the weekend was full of fun and adventure. Up next for the XTERRA Trail Run Series, New York runners are invited to race in the XTERRA Trail Running National Championship on September 13th in Bend, OR. From there, they can say aloha to the XTERRA Trail Running World Championship on the spectacular Hawaiian island of Oahu on December 6th. Neither event requires qualification, so all are welcome to compete.
