XTERRA Runners Head to Dillon Lake for Distance Event

2009 XTERRA VIRGINIA TRAIL RUN SERIES FINALE

For its season finale, the XTERRA Virginia Trail Run Series is preparing for a heart pounding, endurance testing event around Goochland’s Dillon Lake on August 22. The XTERRA Dillon Lake Trail Run will host the season’s longest distance event to date in a grueling 30-kilometer race through the area’s rolling hills and beautiful valleys proving once and for all that Virginia is for...athletes.

Along with the main, 30km trail run, race director Mark Junkermann is also organizing a fun and scenic 15-kilometer course for those looking for something with just as much excitement but on a smaller scale. The top 15 runners in each age group of the 30-kilometer event will earn points toward their 2009 series totals.

This is the first year for the XTERRA Virginia Trail Run Series, and already, it has attracted a group of faithful followers. In fact, runners like Courtney Klein and Matthew Barkley of Richmond, Paul Eley of Fredericksburg, and Robert Carscadden of Kents Store have competed in every one of this year’s events.

Athletes ending the season with top series scores will be awarded the coveted crown of XTERRA Regional Champion and win free entry to the XTERRA Trail Running National Championship taking place on September 13 in Bend, Oregon. Then on December 6th, XTERRA is taking its Trail Run Series home to the Hawaiian island of Oahu for the 2nd annual XTERRA Trail Running World Championship. Here at the majestic Kualoa Ranch, athletes can run around the pristine landscape that has played home to the sets of major productions like Jurassic Park, Godzilla and the hit television show LOST.
