XTERRA Announces New Trail Run in Texas

On August 22, XTERRA will proudly introduce its first-ever Texas trail run in Austin’s Emma Long City Park. After numerous emails and calls asking when the XTERRA Trail Run Series would make its way to Texas, race directors Mike Carter and Julie Hogenmiller are excited to be teaming up with XTERRA to finally make this event a reality.

Two distances, the main 18km trail race and a 5km fun run, will kick off a weekend full of off-road adventure. Along with the trail run events, Saturday, August 22 will host a 16-mile mountain bike race and an XTERRA University at Pure Austin Fitness downtown featuring reigning XTERRA USA Champion Shonny Vanlandingham as she gives advice for the XTERRA Austin off-road triathlon the following day.

Inside the 1,147-acres of Austin’s largest city park, the Pure Austin Fitness Emma’s Revenge Trail Run will loop runners along the shady bank of Lake Austin, under the Cypress trees, up the cliff, and through the tight single track trails before descending back down again. Runners will be warmly rewarded at the finish line by Hat Creek Burgers, who will be sponsoring the post-race food.

As part of the 2009 XTERRA Trail Run Series, this event is the perfect training race for the XTERRA Trail Running National Championship on September 13 in Bend, Oregon. In fact, those finishing the 18km course in less than 3 hours will receive special recognition along with the country’s best runners at Nationals. From there, Texans can say aloha to the Hawaiian island of Oahu at the December 6th XTERRA Trail Running World Championship.
