Dix, Kucharski Continue Streak in XTERRA Series

(Coatesville, PA) – Almost like déjà vu, hometown superstar Dan Dix and Quakertown’s Jerilyn Kucharski continued their streak on top of the podium at the XTERRA Hibernia Park Blast Trail Run on May 20. After two races in the 2009 season, Dix and Kucharski remain undefeated in the men’s and women’s divisions with their winning times of 22:49 and 27:32 respectively for the 5-kilometer event.

Not only did the winners repeat their performances, but Derek Schultz and Michaele Roat also took the runner up positions for the second straight race. Schultz crossed the finish line in 23:27 while Roat was just 33 seconds behind Kucharski in 28:05.

For once Mother Nature seemed to be on race director Don Morrison’s side providing perfect blue skies and 80-degree temperatures instead of the rain storms that have become typical of the XTERRA Philly Series. With the beautiful weather, everyone stayed around for a great XTERRA-style pizza party and large prize raffle.

According to XTERRA Mid-Atlantic Ambassador Rich Costello, “Hibernia Park is a fantastic location, and the race was a great time. This trail running series has been a tremendous way to introduce my daughter to the exciting world of XTERRA events. The organizers do an awesome job of not only putting together fun and challenging run courses, but they also make everyone who comes out feel very much a part of the action.”

Points will be rewarded to the top runners in each age group, and those with the highest totals at the end of the series will be crowned XTERRA Regional Champions and receive free entry to the XTERRA Trail Running National Championship on September 13 in Bend, Oregon. From there, Philly locals will have the chance to compete at the XTERRA Trail Running World Championship on the spectacular Hawaiian island of Oahu on December 6.

It looks like the challenge is on for anyone to beat Dan and Jerilyn at the next series race. Coming up on June 3, the XTERRA Warwick Park Ruckus participates in National Running Day in Pottstown, PA. Registration and more information can be found at www.xterratrailrun.com.
