XTERRA Prepares for First Run at Paris Mountain Trails

New to 2009, the XTERRA South Carolina Trail Run Series is heading to Paris Mountain State Park for the season's second race on May 30. This will be the first time XTERRA has set foot on the Greenville County park's trails, and everyone is excited for the new adventure.

Paris Mountain State Park will host three races during 2009 featuring several distances. This first one, the longest at 15-kilometers, will be the most challenging as it includes several long climbs and descents. Runners will explore a variety of trails inside the park including Mountain Creek, Sulphur Springs, Firetower, Kanuga, North Lake, Pipissewa and Brissy Ridge. There is no shortage of obstacles as the course winds up steep, strenuous climbs, down along deep ravines, and over rocky, rugged terrain.

Early sign up is encouraged with a trail run special offering a discount to runners registering for all three Paris Mountain Trail events before May 9.

Since this is the second of three races in the 2009 XTERRA South Carolina Trail Run Series, only one more event lies ahead for athletes to earn series points. Those ending the season with top scores will be crowned XTERRA Regional Champions and receive free entry to the XTERRA Trail Running National Championship on September 13 in Bend, Oregon. Then on December 6, area runners will have the opportunity to race at the spectacular Kualoa Ranch on the Hawaiian island of Oahu for the open-to-all XTERRA Trail Running World Championship.

Entry Fee: $20 before May 9 / $25 after May 9 / $30 Race Day - $5 discount to Greenville Track Club members
