Ceron, Clouse Finish First at XTERRA Redwood Peak

On an unusually hot morning, the inaugural XTERRA Redwood Peak Trail Run went off without a hitch this past Sunday. Starting at Roberts Recreational Area, two distances, a 5km fun run and the 15km endurance event, challenged runners as they raced over the dirt-covered trails lined with 100-year old, 150-foot trees.

Coming all the way from Mexico, Enrique Ceron, 25, clocked the fastest time of the day for the 15km race in 1:10:55 finishing just 7 seconds ahead of San Francisco's Michael Davitian.

For the women, former pro XTERRA mountain bike triathlete Aracelly Clouse of Cameron Park smoked the competition in 1:22:25. Bethanie Werner from Sandy, UT claimed the runner up position four minutes later. Wins from both this race and the XTERRA Chanoko half marathon last month have given Clouse a commanding lead in the XTERRA NorCal Trail Run Series. 

In the 5-kilometer event, Matthew Roberts of Chico, CA placed first with a time of 26:48. The Vice President of Marketing for Springboard Biodiesel, one of the event's sponsors, crossed the finish line 10 seconds ahead of Roman De Sota of Livermore. Both men accidentally ran off course but were so far in front that they still finished almost a minute ahead of the rest of the pack. Lily Dashiell of San Francisco turned in a time of 27:46 to claim the women's 5km race with Jamie Edelen of Lafayette, CA just over a minute behind her.

XTERRA Ambassador Barbara Peterson from Berkeley won her age group in the 15km race reporting that the "energy of the event was excellent. It was such a great way to enjoy a Sunday morning."

Race director Brennan Lindner had similar reactions saying "The race had a great vibe and a great course. There were amazing views over the East Bay and Redwood Canyon, everyone had a blast. As a new race, it was a huge success, so we can't wait for the next one in the Marin Headlands."
