Chattin, Walsh Find Victory at XTERRA Boordy Vineyards

(Hydes, MD) – Judging from the turnout at last night’s XTERRA Boordy Vineyards Trail Run, it’s easy to see that this is the most anticipated event in the XTERRA Chesapeake Series. Seven states were represented as 501 runners crossed the finish line of the 5-kilometer course.

It was Chris Chattin, 44, of Columbia, MD who crossed that line with the fastest time of the evening in 17:01, just six seconds ahead of runner-up, 17-year old Bill King of Timonium.

For the women, Orla Walsh, 21, earned her place on top of the podium with her time of 19:19. Coming in second at 19:36 was Baltimore local Simone Dekker, 23.

According to race director Kelly Dees, “This was without a doubt the most successful year we’ve had out of the four years running this event. We could not have asked for more perfect weather since the post-race celebration is always a favorite in the community. Hundreds of runners and families stayed after the event for the picnic, the wine tasting, and the bluegrass band.”

This was the third of four races in the 2008 XTERRA Chesapeake Trail Run Series giving runners just one more opportunity to earn points toward their overall series total. Top finishers will be crowned Regional Champions and invited to race for free at the XTERRA Trail Running National Championship on September 27 in Bend, Oregon. Here they will compete alongside the best-of-the-best in the trail running world. From there, runners will have the opportunity to race at the XTERRA Trail Running World Championship on December 7 on a spectacular course in Hawaii.

Next up in the XTERRA Chesapeake Trail Run Series is the XTERRA River Valley Ranch 5/10km Trail Runs on August 23 in Manchester, Maryland.
