Herr, Stapley Finish First at XTERRA New England Trail Run Series Finale

(Hanover, NH) – After weeks of flash floods and tornados, the skies opened up to let the sun shine for the first-ever XTERRA STOAKED Trail Run held at the Oak Hill XC Trail System in the Storrs Pond Recreation Area this past Saturday.

David Herr, 43, of Canaan, VT finished the 16-kilometer course with the fastest time in 43:25. Less than two minutes later, race director Chad Denning, 33, of New London, NH crossed the finish line to capture second place.

In the women’s division, Montreal, Quebec native Sophie Stapley, 39, won the first place title with her time of 50:15. Dorcas Wonsavage, 43, finished her hometown course less than a minute later to take the runner-up position.

While a majority of the athletes who took part in Saturday’s race called New Hampshire home, twelve other states as well as Canada were represented at the event. When asked to describe the course, Denning said “In a word… muddy.” He added “The event went amazingly well this weekend! We had some great athletes, and they all loved the race course, the venue and the all-out festival atmosphere.”

Since this was the third and final event in the 2008 XTERRA New England Trail Run Series, Regional Champions will be crowned and invited to race for free at the XTERRA Trail Running National Championship on September 27 in Bend, Oregon. Here runners from across the country will come together to challenge themselves against trail running’s best competitors. From there, runners will have the opportunity to compete in the first-ever XTERRA Trail Running World Championship on December 7 over a spectacular course on Kualoa Ranch in Hawaii.
