Johnson and Isackson Take On XTERRA Snowbird Challenge

Snowbird Runner(Snowbird, UT) - Utah runners returned to the trails at the XTERRA Snowbird Challenge 8K Trail Run this past Saturday at Snowbird Resort. Former Michigan State runner Todd Johnson, 24, had the fastest time of the day coming in at 35:21 while Kevin Tuck, 52, took second place at 37:51.

Winning the women's race, Dorthyann Isackson, 26, completed the 5-mile run in 47:03 with Vanessa Conabee, 35, right behind with her time of 47:46.

Even after the previous grueling XTERRA Utah Series race at Wolf Mountain, race directors John and Kristin Wojciechowski did not give runners any relief climbing this course almost 1000 vertical feet to top off above 9000 feet. Temperatures were cool around 50 degrees during the race as runners ascended the mountain. "This was one of the only summer races where runners had to jump over snow banks" John said. "The runners enjoyed the hilly, woodsy, and single-track trails. There were several waterfalls lining the course and a variety of wildlife including deer and a coyote running alongside our athletes. We had a lot of fun."

This was the second race in the 2008 XTERRA Utah Trail Run Series with two more opportunities for runners to earn points toward their series total. The 27 runners that have raced in both events have positioned themselves well ahead of the competition.  Athletes with top points at the end of the series will be awarded free entry to the XTERRA National Trail Running Championship on September 27 in Bend, Oregon. From there runners can race in the first-ever XTERRA Trail Running World Championship on December 7 at the beautiful Kualoa Ranch in Hawaii.

Next up for the 2008 XTERRA Utah Series is the XTERRA Antelope Island 12K Trail Run on Antelope Island in Syracuse, Utah. Then comes the XTERRA Wheeler Canyon Xduro 21K Trail Run - part of the weekend-long sports spectacular at the XTERRA Mountain Championship in Ogden. For more details, visit www.xterraplanet.com.
