Doland and Marinangeli Cross the Finish Line First at XTERRA X-Country Run

(Palatine, IL) – On a hot Chicago day, 130 runners, ages 13-60 from 6 states, came out to challenge the XTERRA X-Country Trail Run 8K.

Hometown hero Jason Doland, 38, had the fastest time of the day crossing the finish line in just 29:27. Just a minute behind him was Hoffman Estates resident Garrett McLinn, 21, to take second place in the men’s race.

For the women, Jean Marinangeli, 24, from Arlington Heights won with her time of 32:59 and also took home the fourth place overall title. Barrington resident Taylor Penrod, 22, took the second place women’s title just 30 seconds later.

“While the weather might have been humid, the first XTERRA Chicago Trail Series race of the year kicked off as a success” said race director Scott Bush.

Since this was the first race in the 2008 XTERRA Chicago Trail Run Series, runners have only two more opportunities to earn points toward their series total. Athletes with top points at the end of the series will be awarded free entry to the XTERRA National Trail Running Championship on September 27 in Bend, Oregon. From there runners can race in the first-ever XTERRA Trail Running World Championship on December 7 at the beautiful Kualoa Ranch in Hawaii.

Next up for the 2008 XTERRA Chicago Series is the XTERRA Renegade Trail Run 10K in Palatine, Illinois on July 12, 2008.
