XTERRA Warwick Park Ruckus Crowns Two New Winners

(Pottstown, PA) - The XTERRA Philly Series crowned two new champions at the end of a wet and muddy race at last night's XTERRA Warwick Park Ruckus 5K. After a rough battle with Mother Nature, Jonas Hampton, 19, from Stowe, PA and Lorraine Jasper, 46, of Birchrunville, PA came out on top.

Hampton, with his time of 18:35, was able to dethrone Coatesville resident Dan Dix, who has been the reigning champion of the series so far, by a mere 39 seconds.  In the women's race, Jasper crossed the finish line in 23:13, just 24 seconds ahead of previous winner Jerilyn Kucharski of Quakertown.

"Heavy rain downpours during the day and right up to race time made this race a real XTERRA adventure. The runners had many wet and muddy obstacles to overcome to get to the finish line. The final challenge was a creek crossing, but the downpour of rain turned it into a rapid river crossing" said race director Don Morrison, who had to stand guard and help runners get across the treacherous water. 

The brave runners tackled some of nature's finest obstacles from fallen logs and deep puddles to thick mud and slippery rocks. XTERRA Ambassador, Sue Anne Clark had a nasty slip and came out with a worthy battle wound to prove it. Still she told us that "The course had a nice flow to it even though the trail this week was wet, misty and thick. I had a ton of fun on this course!"

The XTERRA Warwick Park Ruckus was the third of five races in the 2008 XTERRA Trail Run Series, so runners only have two more chances to earn series points in order to win free entry to the XTERRA National Trail Running Championship on September 27 in Bend, Oregon.
