XTERRA Challenges Philly Runners to Hibernia Park Adventure

RACE #4 IN THE 2008 XTERRA PHILLY TRAIL RUN SERIES

Hibernia Park is preparing to host the next XTERRA Philly off-road trail run adventure. The XTERRA Hibernia Park Challenge 8k will storm the trails Wednesday, June 18 in Coatesville, Pennsylvania.

Hibernia Park is a trail runner's mecca with over 900 acres of root-tripping, rock-stumbling trails enclosed within the beautiful woodlands. Lush overgrown forests and green shaded havens disguise the 5 mile course with its steep inclines, shoe-sucking mud traps, and variety of other obstacles to navigate including fallen trees, loose gravel paths and winding, rocky creeks.

Trail running has gained popularity in the Philadelphia area with rapid success. Race director Don Morrison wanted to create a family friendly series that did not conflict with his neighbors' weekend schedules. Therefore, with the first four races held on Wednesday nights, the series has taken on a fun yet competitive atmosphere. Athletes are encouraged to bring their families with play areas for the kids and a well-deserved post-race pizza party to follow the challenging off-road expedition. After the large success of the first event, runners are eagerly awaiting their chance to take revenge on the adrenaline-rushing trails.

The Hibernia Park Challenge is the fourth of five races in the XTERRA 2008 Philly Trail Run Series. After this, runners are given only one more opportunity to add points to their series total to earn free entry to the XTERRA National Trail Running Championship on September 27 in Bend, Oregon. From there, athletes are given the chance to compete in the XTERRA Trail Running World Championship on December 7 in beautiful Hawaii.
