Andrus and Dix Win Revenge in Warwick Park

(Pottstown, PA) - Local cross country legend Dan Dix from Coatesville, PA and Reading, PA resident Deena Andrus won their respective divisions at the XTERRA Warwick Park Revenge 5k Trail Run at Warwick Park on Wednesday night.

Dix came in first for the men with his time of 19:06 just 40 seconds faster than runner-up, high school student, Matt Herring. For the women, Deena Andrus crossed the finish line in 24:17 only 26 seconds in front of Jerilyn Kurcharski.

With almost all the runners residing in the Philadelphia area, the Paypa brothers played the exception.  Wilfrank and Algregg Paypa drove all the way from their hometowns of Bedford, MA and Richmond, VA to meet in the middle for a short family reunion on the XTERRA course.

The 80-degree spring evening was the perfect setting to start the XTERRA Philly Series. The course was filled with calf-screaming hills and flat rocky twists within the deep woods typical of Chester County.

Sue Ann Clark, the winner of the women's 30-39 race and XTERRA Mid-Atlantic Ambassador, described the course. "Race director, Don Morrison, let the trail runners know what makes XTERRA different from other trail runs as we climbed stairs in the first 800 meters into the race." Sue went on to say, "you know it's an XTERRA trail run when there are extraordinary challenges on the course and many rewards to reap at the podium. We are looking forward to finishing the XTERRA Trail Run Series here in the countryside of Philly, and taking it all the way to Nationals."

After the race, Dan Dix commented, "The course was a blast. I'm looking forward to the rest of races in the series. This was an awesome trail."

The XTERRA Warwick Park Revenge was the first of five races in the Philly Trail Run Series giving runners plenty of time to earn more points toward their series total. The runners with top points at the end of the series with earn free entry to the XTERRA National Trail Running Championship in Bend, Oregon on September 27. From there, runners can go on to compete in the XTERRA Trail Running World Championship on December 7 in beautiful Hawaii.

Next in the Philly Trail Run Series is the XTERRA Hibernia Park Blast Trail Run 5K on May 21.
