XTERRA Crystal Cove Marks the Last Stop on this Year's XTERRA Trail Running CampaignNewport Beach, CA – After nearly 40 XTERRA Trail Running races across the country, the last stop for the 2007 calendar is the XTERRA Crystal Cove Trail Run on December 16. The race has two distances, a 5k for runners of all ages and skill levels and a 15k for those in search of a true challenge. Because of the popularity of the XTERRA SoCal Series, this race is SOLD OUT and will not allow race day entries. Runners will toe the start line at 8:00 for the 15K and 8:30 for the 5k. Some big name triathletes and runners will be in attendance including Heather Fuhr, an Ironman and XTERRA World Champion and Paul Huddle a pro triathlete for 11 years, and now an esteemed author and coach. The course runs through fire roads and single-track trails in the El Moro area of Crystal Cove State park. The rustic setting with undeveloped woodlands is a perfect escape for anyone looking to get into nature and run off some of the pre holiday stress. DIRECTIONS: From the 405 South, take the 73 South to Macarthur Blvd. Take this to PCH and go south to El Moro/Crystal Cove State Park. Turn left into the park and follow the signs! From South OC - take PCH to the Park, or the 73 Toll Road if you wish (exit El Toro and take this to Laguna Beach). Once you reach PCH - turn north to Crystal Cove State Park. For media members wanting additional race information for race day, please contact the Race Director About the XTERRA SoCal Series: All events in this Series feature a shorter run for beginners/sprinters and a longer course for more endurance-oriented athletes. The 7 event series has stops in some of the top trails and mountain ranges in Southern California. Points are awarded for the top finishers in each age group for the longer distance events. At the end of the season, the top point finishers will earn a berth to the National Championships in Lake Tahoe, NV. Check out the schedule below for rest of the 2007/2008 events! Beneficiary: A portion of the Los Angeles area event-proceeds benefit Children's Hospital Los Angeles, which was founded in 1901. Children's Hospital Los Angeles has been treating the most seriously ill and injured children in Los Angeles for more than a century. Up Next: Because the XTERRA Boney Mountain Race was cancelled due to the rampant fires in California, it has been rescheduled for January 12, 2008. This event is a killer 21K or 5K run in thousand Oaks, CA |
