XTERRA Topanga Turkey Trot Race Report

Los Angeles, CA (November 24, 2007) After Thursday's Thanksgiving feast, over 300 runners ran off their turkey dinners on the trails of Trippet Ranch in Topanga State Park for the 2007 XTERRA Topanga Turkey Trot Trail Run.  Runners chose from three disciplines: a 5k trail trot (runners actually ran after a turkey), a 10k trail trot (twice the fun), or a 15k trail trot (for those who revel in a true challenge).

In the distance event, it was Jose Ortiz (44) who crossed the finish line first.  He cut the tape in just an hour and three minutes.  "The course was really nice; so many curves. The narrow trails and downhill were the hardest. I've never done the 15K before. I did the 10K a long time ago and placed 2nd at Malibu Creek."  He was trailed by Carlos Vizcarra (34) of Los Angeles and Howard Jacobs (41) of Westlake Village with times of 01:06:57 and 01:07:17 respectively.

For the female endurance runners it was Stacia Spangler (29) of Westlake Village CA who took home the gold in a time of 1 hour and 18 minutes.  Following her lead was Kathy Faulstich (37) of Santa Monica and Nicole Latimer (26) of Pasadena with times of 01:23:59 and 01:28:04.

The day could not have been more pristine for this wonderful event.  The cliffs and canyons of the Santa Monica Mountains set a beautiful stage for this race, now in it's twenty-six year!  Also beautiful is the cause, well worth running for… proceeds from this, and every SoCal Trail Run event, benefit the Children's Hospital Los Angeles.
