A Race Against Time at the XTERRA Pt. Mugu Trail Run350+ Runners Beat Out The Red Flag Warning Los Angeles, CA (October 6, 2008) -- For the first time in three years, the XTERRA Pt. Mugu Trail Run took place as originally scheduled, allowing 350 happy runners to experience this spectacular trek, noted as one of the best in Southern California. The shortage of rain in the Santa Monica Mountains leads to high fire warnings - the culprit of delaying trail running events. This year, the XTERRA 11k and 18k race began in the morning and finished by 11:30 AM, just missing the Red Flag Warning that went into effect at 12:00 noon! 18k TOP THREE: The men's finish was a true battle for first and second with Jonathan Toker (32) taking the win in a time of 1 hour, 13 minutes and 14 seconds. LA local runner Carlos Vizcarra (34) was a hair behind just 4 seconds behind! "What a finish!" Exclaimed race director Brennan Lindner, who said that a high proportion of participants wiped out at the finish line, which was at the end of a 2.5-mile downhill section. Shawn St. Sauveur (29) of Northridge took the overall bronze in a time of 1 hour and 15 minutes. For the women, it was Malibu's Anissa Sequin (35) who flew through the course and earned a commanding win in a time of 1 hour and 19 minutes - putting her in the top 10 overall male & female out of 350 competitors. Julie Jakoboski (23) of La Crescenta who followed suit in a time of 1 hour and 28 minutes with Erin Beresini (24) a runner from Hermosa Beach grabbing third place in a time of 1 hour and 33 minutes. 11k TOP THREE: The race was also tight for the 11k event. It was George Marshall (54) of Sandy, Utah who took the top honors in just over 55 minutes. Guillaume Reynet (38) of Redondo Beach followed in 56 minutes and Brian Ricciotti (34) of San Clemente was third in 57 minutes. Another Malibu resident took the lead for women's short course - Nina Greenberg (45) finished in 58 minutes. She was followed by Kim Hargrave (34) of Westlake Village (59:18) and Stacia Spangler (29) of Santa Monica (1:01:04) respectively. No matter where they finished, all athletes were treated to some of the most brilliant coastal views possible; at 1,000 feet above the Pacific Ocean and PCH, the scene is simply breathtaking. A pass through Overlook Trail also gave runners grand views into La Jolla Canyon, Sycamore Canyon and Boney Mountain.
