XTERRA Finds the Champion in You

The XTERRA Nevada Trail Run, a Benefit for AYSO Incline Village -- 9/29/2007

Lake Tahoe, NV -- XTERRA returns to Incline Village, NV at the close of September for a weekend of athletic competitions aimed at seasoned professionals, as well as those who want a fun reason to get active outdoors.  For the latter group, the XTERRA Nevada Trail Run at 10:00 AM on Saturday, September 29th, is the event to get pumped up for.  As the final competition in the 2007 XTERRA Trail Running Points Series, this 5k or 10k race is produced for anyone and everyone looking to enjoy a workout in nature and support a great cause.

The pristine course takes participants through a conifer forest, where pines and cedars perfume the fresh mountain air and serve as a canopy from the hot sun.  Runners will find themselves crossing over and ducking under log bridges on this natural track, loaded with tight and numerous switchbacks.

Designed as a 5K loop, those who choose to do the short course end their journey after one circle.  The 10K runners cross the same finish area for the 5k, but continue on for a second trek around - using the cheers as an extra boost as they retrace their steps.  The 10k course also has other attributes, as it simultaneously will house XTERRA Regional Trail Running Champions who have qualified to compete for the title of 2007 XTERRA National Trail Running Champion.  In addition, it is the same track that professional XTERRA off-road triathletes will tackle the next day. 

WOMEN WIN A TRIP TO HAWAII: The ladies in the 10k event also are in contest for a very special prize from Hawaiian Airlines, as the top female is awarded a roundtrip airfare from the West Coast to Hawaii!  So "wahine holo nui!" -- that's Hawaiian Airlines way of saying, "run fast young lady!".  Last year, it was Kelly Milligan of Park City, Utah who flew through the 10K XTERRA Nevada course, finishing as the fastest female in a time of 39:45.  Milligan, who competed for the U.S. cross-country ski team at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, had a lot to smile about.  Not only did she earn the bragging rights for fastest female, but she also won that roundtrip ticket to the land of Aloha!

BENEFICIARY: Here's the kicker… the proceeds from the Saturday XTERRA Trail Runs go to benefit AYSO Incline Village; last year more than $1,000 was raised for the organization.  This year, we hope to increase this number - so come on down -- run for health, refresh your adventurous spirit and support a super cause.

XTERRA OFF-ROAD SPORTS FESTIVAL

The XTERRA Nevada is just one in a host of fun activities going on at Incline Village the weekend of Sept. 28th - 30th. 

Located at the Village Green in Incline Village, (next to the Hyatt Regency) visitors to the XTERRA festival will find big white tents filled with everything from the latest in XTERRA Gear to the new GU Energy Gel Formula.  It's headquarters for all the outdoor action, and a great place to have a Pacifico; spend some idle-time after running in the 5k/10k, or finishing up a big plate of BBQ.  There's music playing, prize giveaways, an XTERRA Kids Zone, and all the buzz one could imagine from a rockin' outdoor EXPO. 

On Sunday you can watch the pros and hard-core adventure seekers battle for the title of XTERRA USA Champion in the XTERRA USA off-road multisport challenge.  Or, go see the other pros (the stylists at the Paul Mitchell tent), where you can get a free haircut in exchange for a donation to the Challenged Athletes Foundation.

XTERRA "RUNS WILD"

The XTERRA Trail Run Series is an offshoot from the XTERRA Multisport (swim, bike, run) Series. What started with a handful of independent trail runs is now the XTERRA National Trail Running Championship Series - a bona fide set of races that include 9 different US regions, 40 races and culminates with the XTERRA National Trail Running Championships in Lake Tahoe, NV. 

Each event coincides with the XTERRA mission that sets out to champion human potential and make the world a better place - one step, one trail run, one multisport at a time.
