XTERRA Trail Runs Return to the Midwest

Lawrence, KS -- Following a hugely successful “run of events” in 2006, the XTERRA Trail Running Series returns to the Midwest for a second summer session.  This year, three scenic off-road races grace the Midwest schedule, opening with the XTERRA Stump Jumpin’ Trail Stomp on Saturday, July 14.

The XTERRA Stump Jumpin’ Trail Stomp is a heart poundin’, mud splatterin’ and thorn scratchin’ race through the forested trails of Clinton Lake – this is anything BUT your typical morning jaunt!  As the sun crests the East horizon and the 8am gunshot start fires, athletes will blast forward through the woods of Clinton Lake like horses huffing over the prairie.

With two distances, a 5k and 10k, this is the perfect event for runners of all ages and skill levels hungry for a challenge.  This race is tough, but more than that, this race is FUN.  It gets athletes away from the treadmill or the emission-filled streets, and into a world of natural beauty and fresh air.  We challenge people to break free from routine and let their feet take them on the road less traveled…

Because the Midwest Series is under the umbrella of the nation-wide XTERRA Trail Running Series (with nearly 40 events across the states) the top ten competitors in the long course earn points at every XTERRA race attended.  When series concludes, those with the most points are crowned Midwest Champions and the top 5 in each class are invited to compete against other regional champions and top runners at the 2007 XTERRA National Trail Running Championship, held this September in Lake Tahoe, NV.

Whether running for health, adventure, fun or competition, this series is a wonderful way to refuel your body and soul.
