450+ Hit The Trails For The XTERRA Topanga Turkey Trot Scramble

In what can only be described as momentous and spectacular, the XTERRA Topanga Turkey Trot Scramble, now in its 25th year, took place on November 25, 2006. Over 450 registered athletes took part in the three events (15k, 10k and 5k) that cover some of the most scenic and strenuous trails in Topanga State Park, just northwest of downtown Los Angeles.  With temperatures hovering in the low 50's, the fog cleared just as the 15k athletes hit the trails.

Sal Bautista (1:00:12), winner of the 2006 XTERRA Boney Mountain Scramble and XTERRA La Jolla Canyon Scramble events, held off a late surge by XTERRA Malibu Creek Trail Challenge winner Chris Foster (1:00:12), to set a new course record.  Not to be overshadowed by the men, Christina Floeqel finished the course in a blistering 1:13:45, just two minutes ahead of Bronwyn Morrissey (1:15:22)

In the 10k event - there were some great performances on both the men and female divisions (check out the full results at http://www.trailrace.com/) All events started with the infamous Turkey Run (don't worry, it's some someone dressed in a turkey suit) and ended with a satisfying Wild Oats breakfast consisting of scrambled eggs, fruit salad, muffins, Coffee Bean coffee and Krispy Kreme donuts.

This event, and the other four events of the XTERRA Scramble SoCal Series are sponsored by Montrail Shoes, Clif Bar, Adventure 16, Fuel Belt, Wild Oats, GU, Gatorade, Paul Mitchell Hair Products, The Starting Line, Arrowhead Mountain Spring Water, XTERRA Gear and Los Angeles Sports and Fitness Magazine.  A portion of the proceeds benefits Children's Hospital Los Angeles, one of the leading pediatric hospitals in the United States.
