CATCH THE TURKEY - DROP THE POUNDS
THE TOPANGA TURKEY TROT - 5K, 10K and 15K OFF-ROAD RUNNING RACE
We've saved the best for last. The final event of the 2006 XTERRA Scramble Series takes place on the scenic trails at Trippet Ranch in Topanga State Park on Saturday, November 25th with three distances to choose from: a 5K, a 10K or 15K.
If you gobble gobbled your heart out this Thanksgiving Holiday, The XTERRA Topanga Turkey Trot Scramble® is perfect remedy for you. It's an off-road, outside the lines, extraordinary trail-running race for anyone and everyone looking to get some exercise and have fun in nature.
Now in it's twenty-fifth year, this race has become as traditional as pumpkin pie. For the last two years in a row, it has been rated "Best Post Event Party" by LA Sports & Fitness Magazine.
The 5K event features a "Huge Scramblin' Turkey" for the children to chase (it's really a man in a turkey suit, but shhh, don't tell the kids). It's also a fun run for families and those who simply want to escape from the city and enjoy the cliffs and canyons of the Santa Monica Mountains.
The 10K and 15K are ideal for competitive runners who revel in a challenge. The rugged courses are staged on a fusion of fire-roads and single-track trails that begin and end at Trippet Ranch. The 15K transports participants to a climb up a fire-road that leads to Hub Junction and a loop on the lovely Garapito Trail.
Race Director Brennan Lindner exclaims that the "wonderful secluded canyon and majestic views from ridges should satisfy everyone" competing or spectating.
Competitors can expect well-stocked aid stations, offering everything from Gatorade and Gu Shots to Clif Bars and verbal encouragement. Post-race enjoy a massage, breakfast, complimentary refreshments and raffle prizes. Awards are given to the overall male and female winners as well as the top 3 males and females for each age group.
Proceeds from this, and every SoCal Scramble event, benefit the Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Founded in 1901, the hospital has been treating the most seriously ill and injured children in Los Angeles for more than a century.
