2006 La Jolla Canyon Legend Scramble

A river of runners will flow through the Santa Monica Mountains on Saturday, October 28th for XTERRA La Jolla Canyon Legend Scramble® - an insanely awesome trail running race.

Not even close to ordinary, this event pushes the boundaries of extraordinary.  A challenging and technical course, racers travel on some of the least developed (and hence most beautiful) trails in the Santa Monica Mountains.

Participants choose from two distances: an 11k or 18k, each offering an escape from the daily grind of city life and an opportunity to pursue personal health and happiness.  If you're looking to see some amazing ocean views and have some serious fun, this is the race for you.

Runners will be captivated with the variety of terrain that includes: steep climbs, valleys with lush grass, creek crossings, waterfall climbs, and a downhill that will take your breath away.  Race director Brennan Lindner describes it as "a complete potpourri of running conditions -- and once everyone spreads out, it's like you are on your own solo run."

Competitors can expect well-stocked aid stations, offering everything from Gatorade and Gu Shots to Clif Bars and verbal encouragement.   Post-race enjoy a massage, breakfast, complimentary refreshments and raffle prizes.  Awards are given to the overall male and female winners as well as the top 3 males and females for each age group.

Proceeds from this event go to the Children's Hospital Los Angeles.  Founded in 1901, the hospital has been treating the most seriously ill and injured children in Los Angeles for more than a century.

The XTERRA La Jolla Legend Scramble race also offers a Youth Outreach Program, introducing 12 to 17 year old students to the California State Parks and trail running.

Course map, directions, registration, and further information can be found on the race website, www.trailrace.com
