2006 XTERRA Nevada and the XTERRA Nevada Scramble

XTERRA Nevada

Kody Reed, a 17-year-old from Monterey, California, won the XTERRA Nevada competition on a glorious day in Incline Village, Nevada.  Reed, a recent graduate of Monterey High School, completed the 750-meter swim, 32-kilometer mountain bike, and 5k trail run in 2:34:41.  It was the first-ever XTERRA for Reed, although he has already made his mark in multisport with wins at junior ITU, Mountain Bike, and High School legacy events.

Incline Village native Sarah McMahan, who delivered twin boys less than a year ago, won the women's overall in 2:58:28.  McMahan defeated the reigning XTERRA
amateur world champion Marion Summerer from Germany by more than three minutes.

XTERRA Scramble

Kelly Milligan, 45, of Park City, Utah flew through the 10K XTERRA Nevada Scramble course, finishing as the fastest female in a time of 39 minutes and 45 seconds.  Milligan, who competed for the U.S. cross country ski team at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, had a lot to smile about.  Not only did she earn the bragging rights for fastest female, but she also won a roundtrip ticket on Hawaiian Airlines from the West Coast to Hawaii!

On the men's side, Michael Goralka of Carson City, Nevada took the top honors in the 10K, finishing in a blazing speed of 35 minutes and 35 seconds.  For the 5K it was Jeff Huxhold from Reno, Nevada who finished in 16 minutes and 10 seconds.  Ingrid Middaugh from Vail, Colorado was the fastest 5K female with a time of 22 minutes and 10 seconds.

The field was a mix of approximately 125 runners of all ages and skill levels from ten different U.S. states.  It could not have been a more perfect day for runners to get out in the majestic nature of Lake Tahoe - this adventurous course had competitors jumping over creeks and zigzagging on switchback trails.

More than $1,000 was raised for the event beneficiary, the AYSO of Incline Village.
